Gwyneth Hodgins, Social Worker and Psychotherapist

About Me

I believe in everyone's innate ability to grow, to heal, and to thrive, if only given the chance. As your therapist, I'm here to create the space and the opportunity for your own inner wisdom to emerge.

What's your vibe?

What's your education, work experience, and training?

What can therapy do for me?

I aim to create a soft, gentle landing place for you to unpack your emotions, thoughts, wishes, and experiences. Where you can laugh as much as you cry, and where you can feel truly seen.

I invite you to explore your most private thoughts, your painful memories, and your deepest sense of self, all while knowing you are cared for and not judged. I can be serious and compassionate, and I can also be silly and playful. I love to explore metaphor and stories, and I aim to connect emotions and experiences to the body and its intuitive knowing. I am trauma-informed, feminist, and anti-racist in my approach.

Feel free to contact me if you'd like to learn more about my approach.

I completed a Master's of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Toronto in 2015, and before that, a Bachelor's in Psychology.

I have worked across several settings and populations, including university students, children and families, and adults of all ages.

I have since done several trainings to continue to grow in competency. Some of the most relevant of these are:

  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma Themes (Level 1) - Focusing on the body; learning to listen to the messages we're receiving, and use the body with intention to feel better.

  • The Frontier of Social Justice: Cross-Cultural Compassion in Clinical Practice - Applying a therapy lens to Anti-Racism and how to better support BIPOC clients.

  • Emotion Focused Therapy - Working with emotional blocks and avoidance of emotions.

I also have experience with the following modalities:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

  • DBT (Dialectic Behaviour Therapy)

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Relational Therapy

If you're interested in working together, I invite you to learn more about the services that I offer.

Many of us did not have the benefit of growing up in an environment that taught us we are lovable and good enough just the way we are.
Others have had painful or traumatic experiences along the way that have led to feelings of anxiety, depression, loneliness, self-criticism...

Through a caring, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship,  we can develop compassion for ourselves. We can learn that many of our unhelpful coping strategies (self-criticism, unhealthy relationships, emotion avoidance, substance dependence, etc.) were originally developed to protect or shield us in some way. Through learning to love and care for even our hardest to love parts, we can begin to heal the wounds from our past, and move forward in a way that feels intentional and authentic.

Land Acknowledgement

I wish to acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. Tkaronto is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The violence of colonialism continues to harm these peoples today. As the descendant of white settlers on this land, I am committed to ongoing curiosity, learning, and action to support and uplift the voices and lives of the original stewards of this land, and to deconstruct colonial ideas of human value and wellness. I encourage you to check the Resources page of this website for ways you can also support these efforts.
